Edgewood rally to honor Rachel Corscadden

by

Edgewood residents are organizing a rally for a neighbor who is fighting breast cancer.

Rally4Rachel will honor Rachel Looney Corscadden in the Edgewood Business District Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Broadway Street will be blocked off from Oxmoor Road to Bella Bridesmaid.

That night also serves as Edgewood Night Out, so 10 percent of any dining expenses at participating ENO restaurants will go back to Edgewood Elementary. Additionally, the event is just before the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Corscadden is a mother of two and is currently battling Stage 4 breast cancer.

“I'm so stoked about meeting neighbors that I haven't yet already and also hug the necks of these precious business owners for allowing us to share the night with ENO to spread awareness for this crazy disease that certainly took us by surprise, shook me by the core, but then ultimately brought me so close to Jesus that I will say, has been worth all of the pain, heartache and suffering,” Corscadden said.

Corscadden lives on Broadway, so the rally will be held on her street. She is quick to note the importance of her neighbors and community in her journey.

“I love the relationships that God so intricately placed in my life and left us to nurture,” she said. “I now know why we chose out of all places to live in Edgewood — because I have seen more outpouring of love and selfless support from the entire Homewood community. I can't even name all of the incredible things that my family has gotten to do.”

The Oct. 13 rally will include community prayer at 6:20 p.m., as well as a bounce house for kids and music by DJ Master Joe.

T-shirts are available for sale for $25, and RALLY4RACHEL bracelets will be available for donations to her Race for the Cure team, "You Make Me Brave." You can sign up for her team for the walk by visiting http://ncalabama.info-komen.org/site/UserLogin or at the rally.
