Council approves fence for Big #1 Motorsports
Big #1 Motorsports, 505 Cobb St., received unanimous approval from the city council for a fence variance at the Oct. 12 council meeting.
The motorsports store plans to extend its current wrought iron fence to create more space for off-road vehicle inventory. The city's fence ordinance requires that fencing is placed at least 15 feet from the property line, but Big #1 was approved to place the fence on their property line instead to have additional inventory space.
The council also set a public hearing for their Oct. 26 meeting to discuss new comprehensive smoking regulations.
Other council business included:
- Setting a council work session for Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss two proposals made for the vacant city-owned lot at 165 Oxmoor Road, next to Patriot Park.
- Setting a public hearing for Nov. 9 for a request by All Saints Episcopal Church to rezone part of its property to create new parking spaces.
- Setting a second Nov. 9 public hearing for a request to rezone 818 Columbiana Road to Attached Dwelling Unit District in order to build six townhomes.
- Referring several items to committees for discussion, including purchase of a Greenway property and requesting that a BJCTA representative explain their executive director's resignation to the council.
- Continuing public hearings of two sign variance requests, due to the owners not delivering a final version of the proposed signs.
- Dropping a sign variance for 801 Green Springs Highway, the former location of The Baskits, due to the owners deciding to bring their sign into compliance with the city ordinance.
