City Council to play Exceptional Foundation in basketball

After a 32-20 loss in 2012, members of the Homewood City Council will get another chance to beat The Exceptional Foundation’s team on Thursday, April 18 in the two groups’ annual basketball challenge. The public is invited to attend the 5:30 p.m. game at The Exceptional Foundation located at 1616 Oxmoor Road.

“Basketball is one of the most popular activities we have here at the Foundation, and we welcome volunteers and spectators,” said Robbie Lee, athletic director for The Exceptional Foundation. “Visitors are always surprised at our level of play. In fact, our Foundation teams regularly beat the teams fielded last year by the Homewood City Council and the Homewood Fire Department!”

Since 1993 The Exceptional Foundation in Homewood has afforded men and women with special needs an opportunity to participate in league play basketball every Saturday morning from January through March.

“The outpouring of support from this community — both in their donations and in their attendance  — is frankly humbling,” said Foundation executive director Tricia Kirk. “Each year I think ‘ It just can’t get any better than this,’ and each year I find I am wrong!”
