Current City Council President Bruce Limbaugh has announced his intent to run for re-election this August.

Official candidate qualifying does not begin until July 5, but Limbaugh will begin campaigning for his second four-year term, according to a press release. Prior to his election to the council president seat in 2012, Limbaugh spent 10 years on the Homewood Board of Education.

“My deep love and connections to Homewood, having grown up here, gives me a strong sense of obligation and need to serve the citizens of Homewood. I don’t think my job here is done," Limbaugh said in the release.

In his first term, Limbaugh said he's proudest of the "atmosphere of increased cooperation" on the council as well as completing the deal for Servis First Bank to build its headquarters in Homewood, a project that is currently under construction.

If he wins re-election, Limbaugh said he has several goals: paving projects across the city, moving all public safety services into a new building and upgrading businesses along Green Springs Highway.
