Beeson’s Lay Academy of Theology offers varied courses

Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School will offer a variety of evening and weekday study opportunities through its Lay Academy of Theology this winter and spring. The classes are designed to be of interest to laity as well as ministers.

The evening schedule includes courses that will meet one night a week for six weeks. Each will begin at 6 p.m. and meet for two hours.

Topics, leaders and dates are: Early Christianity (the first 500 years) led by Dr. Carl L. Beckwith, six Mondays beginning Feb. 25; Spiritual Classics for Contemporary Christians led by Dr. Norfleete Day, six Tuesdays beginning Feb. 26; and What Became of Creation (a study of Genesis chapters 1-11) led by Dr. Allen P. Ross, six Thursdays beginning Feb. 28.

Course prices are $79 for early registration or $105 within a week of the start date.

The Lay Academy of Theology will also sponsor the popular Boot Camp for Christian writers led by veteran writers Denise George and Carolyn Tomlin on three Saturdays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Participants chose one topic at each seminar.

Seminar topics are: Grant Writing, Self-Publishing a Book, and Social Networking-Selling Your Books, Feb. 9; Story-Crafting and Writing for Children and Young Adults, March 9; and Writing Memoirs/Ghost-Writing and What Every Writer Must Know, April 13.

Each Boot Camp seminar is $149 one week prior to start date or $175 thereafter.
