Urban Cookhouse will have a new place to call home later this fall, along with a new restaurant concept next door.

Owner Andrea Snyder came to the Sept. 18 Homewood City Council meeting with a sign variance request for the new location, which is at 1920 29th Avenue South, the former home of Classic Wine Co. Urban Cookhouse needs more space and Snyder said she expects to move from their current location at 2846 18th Street South in late November or early December.

The 18th Street location will be open right up until the move happens, Snyder said, with only a day or two of downtime.

The new location will include a drive-through window specifically to pick up call-ahead orders. Snyder said she is also opening a new restaurant, called Farm Bowl + Juice Co., next door in early January. The new restaurant will use many of the same vendors as Urban Cookhouse.

Farm Bowl + Juice Co. will sell acai bowls, smoothies and cold-pressed juices, with major ingredients including kale juice, apple juice and berries, according to a video provided by Snyder. The entire menu will be vegan with prices around $8-12, plus add-ons like bee pollen or spirulina.

Snyder said Farm Bowl was inspired by watching trends in other cities and she wanted to bring the concept of acai bowls to Birmingham. She said the staff will be educated on the nutritional benefits of menu items so they can make recommendations to customers.

"All we know is food and we have a great team of people right now," she said.

The current 18th Street restaurant will not remain vacant, however. Snyder said she intends to hold onto the lease and open a new restaurant there in 2018.
