Big Spoon Creamery plans Edgewood location

Big Spoon Creamery in Avondale is planning to expand to Edgewood with its third location.

The ice cream shop, which hand mixes its ice cream in seasonal and year-round flavors, announced on Instagram on Tuesday that they have plans for a location at 927 Oxmoor Road. Owner Ryan O'Hara said Homewood has been in Big Spoon's sights since the first shop opened downtown in 2014.

“Homewood was always sort of on our radar, and Edgewood specifically,” O'Hara said, noting the "exciting, vibrant community" of businesses and residents. Edgewood Creamery is also located nearby.

The Edgewood location, O'Hara said, will open at the end of 2018 or early 2019. It will have all the same flavors of scoops, cones, ice cream sandwiches and sundaes as the Avondale location, though O'Hara said they're considering the possibility of a specialty flavor just for Edgewood.

All of Big Spoon's ice cream products will still be made in Avondale and transported to Homewood.

The store will be open noon to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and noon-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Learn more about their flavors and products at bigspooncreamery.com.
