Two popular Homewood events are coming together this year for a day of fun in Homewood Central Park.

The Homewood Arts Council invites the community to a day of art and music as the Handmade Art Fest and Pickin’ in the Park team up on Oct. 16 for Sunday in the Park.

The Pickin’ in the Park portion of the event, which gives guests a taste of jazz, folk and contemporary music, allows professional and amateur musicians to come together for a day of improvisation and fun with their instruments, and all are invited to attend and play.

This year, music fans and musicians will have the added experience of getting to see the work of local artists, as Handmade presents several booths of local art for purchase.

Last year, about 30 local artists showcased their work, and this year is expected to be just as jam-packed.

Arts Council President Diane Litsey said the goal of the event is to bring different types of artists together for a “fun and engaging” event.

The free event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. While admission is free, guests are encouraged to consider purchasing pieces from local artists, and food trucks will be on-site as well.
