Brookwood Medical Center named a Practice Greenhealth Partner for Change

Brookwood Medical Center was awarded the 2015 “Greenhealth Partner for Change” Award by Practice Greenhealth. The award is given each year to honor outstanding environmental achievements in the health care sector.

Facilities applying for this award must be recycling at least 15 percent of their total waste, have reduced regulated medical waste, be well along the way to mercury elimination and have developed other successful pollution prevention programs in different areas.

“As a Practice Greenhealth Partner for Change Award winner, Brookwood is committed to improving the health of our patients, staff and community as a whole,” said Brenda Carlisle, Brookwood Medical Center chief operating officer. “We take pride in our sustainability efforts to lessen our impact on the environment and look forward to working with Practice Greenhealth to continue this work across the country.”

Brookwood employees celebrated Earth Day this year through a number of eco-friendly activities on campus in addition to ongoing sustainable health care practices. Healthy smoothies were made with a bicycle-powered blender, a communal pledge tree encouraged participants to adopt an eco-friendly habit and custom wildflower seed packets were distributed to support rooting for earth.
