Homewood City Schools has appointed Ben Berguson to serve as interim head football coach at Homewood High School. Former Coach Doug Goodwin was relieved of his coaching duties this week “for reasons explained to him” and will remain in his position as a physical education teacher, according to a release from the school system.
Berguson and the HHS football coaching staff met with the football players Feb. 26 to relay the news.
According to Homewood City Schools, Homewood players respect Coach Berguson, and he knows the school’s program inside and out.
“I am honored to be named interim head football coach during this period of transition,” Coach Berguson said. “Homewood City Schools has a rich tradition of success both on and off the field, and I am excited about working with these fine young men. The team will continue to work hard preparing for the upcoming football season.”
A search for a permanent head football coach will begin immediately, according to the release.
