Students, teachers and parents met at Shades Cahaba Elementary School to take part in the 2016 Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 18. Several activities were planned that had far-reaching results outside of the school.
Margaret Keith and Morgan Smith sat side by side at a lunchroom table decorating placemats that will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, a place where families of hospitalized children can find support and stay close to their children.
Sarah Mills King signed her name on a cutout of a hand and placed it onto a larger poster displayed on the lunchroom wall. Other activities included packing bags of toiletries and essentials for the homeless, making bookmarks for an after school organization and writing positive messages on the sidewalk outside of the school with chalk.
