John Lowry and Abbie Freeman will serve as principals of Shades Cahaba and Hall-Kent elementary schools, respectively, starting next school year.
This week Homewood City Schools announced the appointment of two new administrators: Abbie Freeman at Hall-Kent Elementary School and John Lowry at Shades Cahaba Elementary School.
Freeman, who currently serves as Hall-Kent’s assistant principal, came to Homewood from Winterboro High School, where she served as assistant principal for three years.
Before she was an assistant principal, Freeman served as an elementary teacher, Building Based Student Support Team (BBSST) coordinator, and a Title I resource teacher/reading coach.
She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Jacksonville State University and her master’s degree in instructional leadership from Samford University.
Lowry has served as Shades Cahaba’s assistant principal for three years and has 11 years of education experience. He came to Homewood from Creek View Elementary School, where he served as assistant principal for four years.
He received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Montevallo. Lowry is currently pursuing his doctorate degree from Samford University.
In Homewood, Lowry has served on the Strategic Planning Committee, Technology Steering Committee, Safety Plan Chairperson, and Instructional Planning Coordinator.
Current Hall-Kent Elementary School Principal Carol Lord and Shades Cahaba Elementary School Principal Sue Grogan both announced their retirement during the March HCS Board of Education meeting.
