A countdown of 3,2,1 and then a cheer let out by a crowd that gathered along and in 18th Street in downtown Homewood, Ala. to see the iconic Homewood Star begin to twinkle for 2015.
A drizzling rain moved the pre-lighting activities indoors to the LRH Realty offices. Hot chocolate and cookies were served as children and parents awaited the arrival of Santa.
Santa arrived and began to listen to children and adults alike and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
About 50 people gathered and braved the rain for the annual event.
