Homewood Police Department
The Homewood Police Department is located on 29th Avenue in downtown Homewood.
A group of Homewood residents advocating to turn the Homewood Police Department headquarters into a park will be hosting a "pop-up" park on the property in September.
Since last summer, the Homewood GreenSpace Initiative has been encouraging the City of Homewood to create a small park on the current HPD headquarters, 1833 29th Ave. S., once the headquarters is relocated to its new building on Bagby Drive in 2019.
GreenSpace Initiative member Roxanne Batson said the Initiative has secured a permit to create a park for a day in the parking lot of HPD. The park will be created on Sept. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Batson said they plan to assemble things like turf, plants, tables and chairs at the HPD headquarters to give a taste of what a park there might look like.
According to a Facebook page for the event, the GreenSpace Initiative is working with the local chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects on the project.
