High school students and parents learn about sorority life during the annual Sorority 101 event.
For high school girls interested in rushing a sorority, the Birmingham Alumnae Panhellenic Group is hosting an event at Samford University this month to educate them on sorority recruitment.
The fourth annual Sorority 101 will be April 10, 2-4 p.m. at Samford’s Cooney Hall. Alumnae Group Publicity Chairman Kira Gilbert said the event is open to female high school students and their parents and will include information on general sorority life, the recruitment process and what to expect from the experience. It is primarily geared toward high school juniors and seniors who are preparing to make college decisions.
Gilbert said local clothing boutiques will also be there to provide an interactive fashion show and information on what to wear during recruitment.
“If I could go back in time, I would have loved to have attended an event similar to an event like this. Sorority 101 provides an avenue for young women to learn more about the process and the benefits of sorority recruitment and Greek life overall,” said Gilbert, who is a Tri Delta alumna.
Local alumnae and current members of sorority chapters will be at the event to interact with their potential future sorority sisters. The Alumnae Group is working with Samford, University of Montevallo, Birmingham-Southern College, Auburn University and the College Panhellenic Council to host this event.
The event is free and participants can register on site. For more information, visit birminghampanhellenic.yolasite.com.
