Patriot Park was host to the Handmade Art Show on Oct. 24, featuring local artists in a variety of mediums.
Shoppers could purchase more traditional art such as paintings, drawings, pottery and jewelry as well as unusual work such as plant-dyed yarn, metalwork and candles that double as body lotion. In addition to the collection of area artists, Birmingham band Woochega provided entertainment and Magic City Sweet Ice sold frozen treats.
Pam Weaver sold Buttnaked candles at the Art Show. The candle wax is designed to work as a body lotion as well, which Weaver said was inspired by her own eczema. Weaver has been selling her candles at the Art Show for two years, but she has been attending as a shopper for 15 years.
"I love seeing all the talents everybody has and I prefer to spend my money local, with people who are homegrown and make their own items as opposed to a big box store," Weaver said.
