On Aug. 3 around 12:30 a.m., an Asian male was found unresponsive in his hotel room at the Laquinta Inn on State Farm Parkway. The victim was severely beaten and transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. He had trauma to his head and face, and his condition was initially listed as critical. It has since been upgraded to stable, and staff at UAB are optimistic about his chance for full recovery, according to Homewood police.
There was no motive to the assault or forced entry to the room. A person of interest was identified by police and located with the help of the U.S. Marshalls Service within 48 hours. The person of interest was arrested on unrelated felony warrants, and charges in relation to the assault case are pending.
