The Stand Against MS campaign is kicking off with a lemonade stand in Homewood Thursday, July 16.
The youth group from Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church will run the stand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tanner Center for MS, 3105 Independence Drive.
“We are excited to be hosting a stand again this year,” said Kevin Wyatt, youth pastor at Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church. “We held two at our church last year. It is a great event to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis and raise funds for treatments and services.”
Wyatt encourages those passing through the Homewood area to stop by the Tanner Center for some lemonade and cookies.
There will also be a stand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 17 at the Regions-Harbert Plaza.
Stand Against MS began in 2004. Volunteers set up old-fashioned lemonade stands and pass out lemonade and cookies provided by Birmingham’s own Buffalo Rock and Bud’s Best Cookies in exchange for donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The family-friendly fundraising campaign has raised more than $700,000 to support research, programs and services for the 6,900 people living with MS across Alabama and Mississippi.
“Stand is an exciting way to fundraise for any age,” said the Development Manager for the chapter Deanna Deschenes. “It allows people to fight for a great cause and have fun while doing it.”
The Stand Against MS campaign continues July 17 through July 31. Anyone can participate, and the supplies are free.
