Vulcan is the centerpiece of the annual fireworks show.
While Homewood families are enjoying barbecue from Our Lady of Sorrows and fireworks at Thunder on the Mountain, many city employees are also getting a long weekend in honor of Independence Day.
City Hall will be closed on Monday, July 4 and return to normal hours on Tuesday, July 5. The garbage pick-up schedule will be slightly different: Monday pick-ups will be moved to Tuesday, and Tuesday pick-ups will be moved to Wednesday. The Community Center and West Homewood pools will be open for normal hours on Independence Day, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visit homewoodparks.com.
However, the Homewood Public Library will be closed July 2-4 in honor of the holiday. Normal hours for the library will resume on July 5: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; and 2-6 p.m. on Sundays. Also, remember that the annual July Fourth Fest in downtown will block off most of 18th Street South and 29th Avenue South from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 4.
