Vote postponed on Exceptional Foundation expansion
Architects for The Exceptional Foundation presented proposed renderings of the new youth center.
Concerns aside, the Homewood City Council approved the first step in a proposed expansion for The Exceptional Foundation.
During its meeting on April 14, the Council voted 9-1 to rezone 1610 and 1612 Oxmoor Road, located behind the Foundation and across the street from West Glenwood Drive. The rezoning marks the Council’s approval of The Exceptional Foundation’s plan to improve the delivery of its services by building a youth center and additional parking on the site.
Council member Michael Hallman provided the only dissenting vote.
“We aren’t seeking to increase the number of people we serve, but rather enhance what people from across the nation know what we’re doing in Homewood,” Exceptional Foundation Executive Director Tricia Kirk said during a previous meeting.
Council members voiced concerns before the vote, most related to Oxmoor Road traffic and how access to the expansion would be controlled. However, a motion for defined access was met with a split vote, 5-5.
