Election Recap
On Aug. 23, Homewood voters will have the chance to elect their 2016-2020 city council members and mayor. The Homewood Star will provide weekly recaps each week leading up to the election, so you can easily keep up with everything you need to know before you vote.
Here's the latest:
- The city has officially called the election for Aug. 23.
- Mike Higginbotham has announced his run for Ward 2, Place 1making him the first non-incumbent to announce his candidacy.
- Current City Council President Bruce Limbaugh has announced his re-election run.
- Pick up our July issue for information about how to vote, how to qualify as a candidate and which incumbents are running again.
- Official qualifying for mayoral and council candidates begins July 5 and lasts until July 19. See the city clerk's office in Rosewood Hall for qualifying forms.
- Voters must register by Aug. 8 and regular absentee ballots must be applied for by Aug. 18.
- The Homewood Star is sponsoring a City Council Election Forum on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 6:30-8 p.m. at Rosewood Hall. The event is open to the public and Jonathan Hardison from FOX6 News will be moderating. Email sydney@thehomewoodstar.com with questions for your city council candidates.
- A runoff election, should it be required, will be held Oct. 4. Elected officials will take office Nov. 7.
