Meredith Drennen
Meredith Drennen will serve as the new director of the Homewood Chamber of Commerce.
The Homewood Chamber of Commerce announced Meredith Drennen as its new executive director. She will start the position Jan. 12.
Drennen comes to the Homewood from the Birmingham Business Alliance, where she served as the director of operations and was responsible for managing the organization’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee, governing bodies and its strategic plan.
“As a Homewood resident, I am eager to assist the local business community in reaching their goals, both individually and as a chamber,” Drennen said. “Homewood is a great place to live, and I look forward to contributing to its continued excellence.”
With eight years of experience in the chamber of commerce profession, Drennen has also served as manager of regional development and also as the manager of events and workforce initiatives manager at the BBA and its predecessor organization, the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber President Trey Schaefer said Drennen has all of the qualifications the chamber was looking for and more.
“A chamber director has to be able to wear many hats. From supporting and promoting Homewood and our businesses to implementing long-range plans, it was important for our board to find someone that had extensive experience and knowledge in community activities,” Schaefer said. “Meredith’s background and expertise will make a significant contribution in leading the Homewood Chamber to the next level.”
Drennen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama, where she earned her bachelor's and master’s degrees in political science. Currently, she is in the US Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management program.
Drennen will take over for Tricia Ford, who will retire at the end of the year.
“Through Tricia’s guidance, the chamber has built a strong foundation, and we look forward to Meredith’s leadership as she continues to build our chamber and celebrate our wonderful community,” Schaefer said.
