The Homewood Police Department is located on 29th Avenue in downtown Homewood.
A disorderly protest over an inmate death led to five arrests Tuesday morning.
A group had gathered in front of the Homewood Police Department to protest the death of Kindra Chapman, according to a release.
Chapman, age 18, was found a week ago in her jail cell with a bed sheet tied around her neck and was later pronounced dead.
After standing in front of the department, the group of protestors moved to the intersection of Highway 31 and 29th Avenue South and blocked two lanes of south-bound traffic standing in the roadway.
Police gave the protestors multiple warnings to move out of the roadway, but they refused to do so. They were arrested for disorderly conduct and later released on a $500 bond.
Those arrested were: Erica Brown, 40; Pam Steele, 52; Anthony Myles, 32; Mercutio Southhall, 30; Cara McClure, 45; and Shirah Robinson.
The Homewood Police Department has conducted an investigation into Chapman’s death and has forwarded it to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for review.
Statements regarding the cause and manner of death will be released through the DA's Office at the conclusion of their review.
The release said that members of the Homewood Police Department express their condolences to Chapman’s family.
