18th Street South Parking Signs
The City Council will consider new parking signs in the lot behind several 18th Street South businesses.
New parking signs could appear behind several businesses on 18th Street South, designating those parking spaces for shoppers only.
At the Monday, Aug. 10 city council meeting, there will be a public hearing for a sign ordinance variance request for these signs along the rear property lines of buildings from 2800 to 2836 18th St. S. David Brandt of Fravert Services is representing the request to the council.
A parking lot already exists between these buildings and Linden Avenue, and Brandt said installing the parking signs will keep the lot available to shoppers. The businesses that border this lot include Cahaba Cycles, Soca, Sam’s Super Samwiches and White Flowers Gallery.
According to Greg Cobb at the Aug. 3 special issues committee meeting, the signage will include five pole signs spaced about 12 feet apart. A variance is required before installation because pole signs are not allowed per the Homewood sign ordinances.
Other upcoming business for the council includes:
- Consideration of a retail table wine license for Red Pearl Restaurant and Super Oriental Market, 243 W. Valley Ave., Suite 121.
- Consideration of allowing the owners of 222 Devon Drive to work in the city right-of-way to install a parking pad and retaining wall.
- Setting a public hearing for Aug. 24 to discuss adopting 2015 International Building, Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, Existing Building, Property Maintenance, Energy Conservation, National Electrical and Fire Codes.
- Asking the public works committee to consider authorizing the mayor to work with ALDOT to resurface the portion of Columbiana Road within city limits. The committee will discuss this on Aug. 17 and a final decision will be made at the following council meeting.
The council meeting is Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. in Rosewood Hall. The agenda can be found here.
