Emerge Alabama, H.I.V.E. Alabama and Make a Difference Alabama present Wonder Women: Transforming Alabama Politics Thursday, August 16, 2018, with candidates who signal historic changes in Alabama politics. The forum, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., is at Homewood Library’s Main Auditorium, 1721 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209.
The evening will feature Louise Jones, Tabitha Isner, candidate for the 2nd Congressional district and Dr. Stacie Propst of Emerge Alabama. Participants will also be able to engage in a question and answer session with statewide candidates Heather Milam for Secretary of State, Donna Wesson Smalley for Alabama Supreme Court, Place 4 and Cara McClure for Public Service Commission, Place 1. Also participating are aspirants to the Alabama House and Senate and other local races. Organizers say the forum, which is free and open to the public, proves “Alabama women have had enough of politics as usual.”
“More than half of the Democratic candidates running for statewide and executive offices are women,” says Dr. Stacie Propst, director of Emerge Alabama, the state’s premier organization that recruits, trains and networks Democratic women who want to run for public office. “This is arguably the most qualified and diverse slate of Democratic candidates in the state’s history.”
Alabama women came out in record numbers last year to elect the first Democratic senator in more than 25 years, Doug Jones. “With so many great candidates, women voters are even more engaged this year,” says Megan Cheek, co-founder of H.I.V.E. Alabama, a leader in progressive change. “Women are goal-driven. They manage campaigns and volunteer. They want results.”
