Comfortable, charming, convenient: That is what Lynda Rothoff hopes shoppers take away from her children’s consignment shop.
The Korduroy Krocodile, which sells upscale consigned children’s clothing and accessories from newborn sizes to early teens, has been a fixture in central Homewood for nearly 35 years. Rothoff said she is now in her second generation of customers. “Women come in and shop now, with their children, and they go ‘I remember playing in the toy box myself,’ and it’s fun,” she said.
After all these years, Rothoff said she thinks it is the shop’s commitment to consistency and quality, as well as her and her employees’ personalities, that set the shop apart. “We put out clothes that we would purchase ourselves, in the condition that we would want to purchase them in,” she said. “I want to treat people the way I would want to be treated.”
Rothoff said she and her employees pride themselves on a quality selection of clothes and accessories that are set out in an organized and inviting way.
Her favorite part of running the shop, however, is the customers.
“I have people that come in just to say hi, or that need a hug,” she said. “I love talking with the people and getting to know everyone, and it’s not just people shopping — they become a family.”
