As Liz Montgomery puts it, she married into the real estate business.
After a 20-year career at SouthTrust Bank, the company was bought out. Montgomery’s husband, Johnny, who has been in the real estate business for 39 years, didn’t want her to move.
“So he proposed, and we got married in the summer of 2005,” Montgomery said. “I started managing a few rentals he owned and got my real estate license and my broker’s license to help Johnny on the sales and buying transactions.”
When the market crashed in 2007, Montgomery found herself doing more renting than selling.
“I now manage about 70 rental properties for multiple owners,” she said. “I enjoy handling it all — helping others to buy, sell or rent a home.”
Montgomery, owner and broker of NorthStar Realty LLC and associate broker at ERA King Real Estate Company, works with anyone wanting to purchase real estate in Alabama and beyond. Though most of her clientele is local, Montgomery can help clients find a qualified real estate agent anywhere — even overseas, she said.
“It is so fulfilling to help clients find either the home of their dreams or a good place to park for a while in a rental,” Montgomery said.
And the best part, over a decade after marrying into the business?
“The best part is that Johnny and I get to work together,” she said.
