Fourth-graders at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School had the chance to create original inventions during their final week of school.
The students created an invention and showed them off at the Invention Convention at school. The special event was a part of their science curriculum that coincided with important inventions in history.
Problem-solving and creative thinking skills helped these fourth-graders produce an original student invention of a new product or the development of a new method of doing something. After gaining approval from their fourth grade science teacher, Hillary Wright, the students progressed through a systematic process to make their idea a reality.
The project helped them learn about inventors and their inventions, as well as creating their own concept through research and development. They also learned how to design a blueprint and create a compelling product advertisement. The students were also instructed to include a report summary and a tribute to another inventor through a written letter.
At the end of the monthlong project, the fourth-graders displayed their original inventions at an Invention Convention in the OLS Parish Hall. Fellow students in the school as well as family members attended the event to share in their accomplishments.
