Homewood Middle School teacher Liz Pipkin has been named a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Scholar.
Pipkin was selected from a national applicant pool to attend one of 17 National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshops. The National Endowment for the Humanities is a federal agency that supports summer study opportunities so that teachers can work with experts in humanities disciplines.
Pipkin will attend a workshop called “The Most Southern Place on Earth: Music, Culture, and History in the Mississippi Delta,” at Delta State University. She said she is looking forward to the photography journalism opportunities as they travel the area.
In 2011, Pipkin was chosen as a fellow to study the country of Turkey and its impact on the world.
