George Terry
Rosedale resident George Terry has qualified to run for the Ward 1 Place 2 seat currently held by Britt Thames, who is running for re-election.
Terry is 36 years old and has lived in Homewood for 34 years. If he wins, this would be his first time holding an elected office.
"If I am elected, I will work hard to gain the trust of the public and to work with the council to solve problems or issues that may occur," Terry said.
Terry said several issues prompted him to run, including rezoning, infrastructure and inadequate lighting on roads. He talked to Rosedale residents and others around Homewood and saw many expressed the same feelings.
"So I thought I’d take it upon myself, maybe let our voices be heard all over Homewood," Terry said. "I’m excited to work with the council and the mayor to see what we can come up with to fix these issues."
If elected, Terry said he would work with his fellow council members to find money in the budget and make a plan for these changes.
Terry works at DST Health Solutions. He and his spouse Tia are expecting their first child in December. They are members of Union Missionary Baptist Church and Terry has volunteered with the Kirklin Clinic. He said he enjoys children and would like to spend more volunteer time coaching youth sports or working with a local reading program.
Terry said his personal Facebook page is the best place to follow his campaign.
