Horns beeped driving down Green Springs Highway Saturday afternoon, March 7. More than 100 protestors lined the street in front of the BP station at the Lakeshore Drive intersection starting at 4 p.m., calling for New Point Outdoors to take down the electronic billboard it is installing on the property and for drivers to boycott the station.
Behind the protesters, bright cones blocked off the area where workers are preparing the large sign to to placed on top of a pole that was installed earlier this week. The property is located in Jefferson County, but not Homewood. On Friday the Homewood City Council passed a resolution denouncing the board.
The protest was organized by Citizens Against New Point Outdoor's Electronic Billboard, whose Facebook group was created the previous day.
