The second annual Pickin' in the Park was marked by cooler weather and music from guitars, banjos, ukeleles, autoharps and more.
The event at Homewood Central Park was a chance for local musicians to listen and play together. There were also food trucks, a performance stage and a tent set up for parents to get fingerprints and other identification materials for their children.
Pickin' in the Park was started by the Homewood Arts Council. Jennifer Holcomb, who volunteered at the event on Sept. 26, said moving it from June to September made a difference in bringing out musicians and listeners.
"It's big fun," said HAC member Diane Litsey. "It's Homewood's front porch."
Many of the musicians at the park were wearing shirts that said "plays well with others," marking them as attendees of last year's inaugural event. This included resident Bruce Winter, who brought along his autoharp and guitar.
Winter said he's played the autoharp for 12 years and the guitar for 43. One of his favorite parts of Pickin' in the Park is seeing other musicians playing unique instruments.
"I get to hear lots of different styles of music," Winter said. "I get to hear outstanding people."
