David Carrington won the June 2010 Republican primary to represent District 5 on the Jefferson County Commission with more than 66 percent of the vote. Since Carrington won the primary election without a runoff and had no Democrat opponent in the general election, he was able to invest his time between June 2010 and November 2010 preparing for his new office on the Jefferson County Commission. District 5 includes Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, most of Homewood, and portions of Hoover, Irondale and Leeds.
Shortly after being sworn into office on November 10, 2010, his fellow Commissioners elected Carrington Commission president. In this role, he presides over Commission meetings and serves as a member of the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) Board, the Jefferson County Health Department Board, the Jefferson County Convention Bureau Board and the Birmingham Business Alliance Board. As a commissioner, Carrington chairs the Administrative Services Committee, which includes oversight responsibility for the Human Resources Department, the Environmental Services Department and the County Attorney's Office. He is also the Commission's primary liaison to the Jefferson County Personnel Board and the County's Pension Board.
