As the University of Alabama revels in its 16th National Championship, a newly-launched local company is helping to spread the celebration across a previously untapped medium. University FanCards, a company that produces, markets and sells collegiately-branded gifts cards, officially launched in December 2015.
It all started in the fall of 2015 when the Boggs family, of Homewood, decided to bring something brand new to the world of collegiately themed products: the University FanCard. The MasterCard® Gift Cards, which are accepted everywhere Debit MasterCard® is accepted in the United States, are each imprinted with the unique logos and slogans from universities.
“We know people here in Alabama love supporting their school of choice, so we wanted to give fans an exciting way to do just that,” said Greg Boggs, Chief Marketing Officer at University FanCards.
The company, located in Birmingham, has officially entered into a 3-year partnership with the University of Alabama Athletics, and the “Bama Cards” are the first to be available online for purchase. University FanCards is the only entity licensed to offer a branded MasterCard gift card with the University of Alabama official athletic marks.
Through its partnership with University FanCards, University of Alabama Athletics also becomes the very first college team in the country to offer a branded Gift Card program. Learfield Sports’ Crimson Tide Sports Marketing, the official multi-media rights holder for University of Alabama Athletics, supervised the Alabama affiliation with University FanCards.
“University of Alabama Athletics is the perfect first partner for this program,” said Boggs. “They have a dedicated fan base that is passionate about finding unique ways to show their school pride. We couldn’t ask for a better or more enthusiastic university as our partner.”
The cards are available exclusively at BamaCards.com, which takes buyers directly to the Alabama-branded cards. These exclusive, university-branded gift cards will be sold for $25, $50 and $100 with a $5.95 purchase fee and can be used anywhere MasterCard® is accepted.
Gift cards will reach area retail stores in early 2016. Reloadable cards will become available in spring 2016.
University FanCards is currently working with other partner universities to launch branded cards such as the University of Tennessee, the University of Mississippi, University of Florida, University of South Carolina, University of Arizona, Florida State University, University of Nebraska and West Virginia University. These partner cards could be available as early as February 2016.
